We use Google Analytics (GA4), via Google Site Kit, to understand how visitors use this site — for example, which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, and general geographic region and device type. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
Google Analytics may set cookies and collect data such as your IP address (which Google may anonymize or truncate), browser type, referring site, and pages visited. This information is processed by Google in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We also use Google Search Console to monitor how the site appears in Google Search results (e.g. search queries, click-through rates). This does not involve tracking individual visitors.
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a "hash") may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you're using it. Gravatar's privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. If your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
If you upload images to this site, please avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from images if it's present.
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in a cookie for convenience on future comments. These cookies last one year.
Visiting our login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies; it contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we set additional cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days (two weeks if you select "Remember Me"), and screen option cookies last one year. Logging out removes your login cookies.
Editing or publishing an article sets an additional cookie containing no personal data — just the post ID of the article edited. It expires after one day.
As noted above, Google Analytics also sets cookies to help us understand site usage.
Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, or articles from other websites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly — those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the content, including if you're logged into an account there.
If you submit an inquiry through our Contact page, we collect the information you provide (such as your name, email address, and message) in order to respond to your inquiry. We do not use this information for marketing purposes without your consent, and we do not sell or share it with third parties except as needed to operate the site (e.g. our email or form-processing provider).
If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email. We do not sell visitor or customer data to third parties.
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them for moderation.
If you register an account on this site, we store the personal information in your profile. You can see, edit, or delete that information at any time (except your username). Site administrators can also see and edit this information.
Contact form submissions are retained as needed to respond to and follow up on inquiries.
If you have an account or have left comments on this site, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it — except where we're required to retain it for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service. Analytics data is processed by Google as described above.
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we add new tools or services that collect data. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made.
Reach out and we'll be glad to help.
